Final Music Video "Punk Rocker"

Final Magazine Advert

Final Digipak

Media Evaluation - Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research and Planning

As well as meeting up weekly at school to discuss any ideas and plan our music video we also stayed in touch via text, whatsapp etc.

Also to find a song for our music videos we looked on sites such as You Tube, I Tunes and our own I Pod libraries before deciding on I wish I was a puck rocker by Sandi Thom.

Costumes and props

For costume and prop ideas we research artists from the same indie/pop genre such as Taylor Swift. Here she is wearing a very natural down to earth "hippy" outfit. This is the type of style we wanted to dress our artist like.

Also as our target audience are teenage girls we decided to look through magazines such as Closer and Heat magazine to see the fashion trends and keep up with the style:

We also used webiste that shold acoustic guitars to find the right one to use in our video.
Construction

We used a Panasonic HD camera to film our music video on for our music video. We really wanted to use this camera as it allows you to film a wider range of shot types as well as focus pull, pans and fast zooming in on our character lipsyncing
For most of our urban scenes filmed in Covent Garden we decided to use a tripod , which helped create a smooth professional looking panning shot. This camera helped us to film many great quality shots and recordings helping us to produce our music video to the best of our ability.
This year I felt a lot more comfortable and confident when using the camera and filming our video. I was interested to use a range of shots whilst filming such as tilts, pans and fast zooming as well as many close up shots.

Editing

This year as well as using I movie to edit, we were introuced to Final Cut Express which helped us to use a range of tools to create different effects such as the razor tool.
We used Final Cut Express to edit a black and white picture montage at the beginning of our musiv video to show a collection of old photos and posters from the era our song is written about. ( 60's and 70's)

Green Screen

Whilst brainstorming with my group we decidede we really wanted to emphasise the contrast between nature and technology as much as possible.
We decided to use a green screen as we felt confident we could create a great piece of footage.
We chose to use footage of our srtist behind a desk surrounded by mobile phones and we then green screened this onto footage we shot of the countryside to express our anti technology narrative.

We wanted the overall  look of our music video be be 60's and 70's, so we used the 'Aged Film' effect on I Movie to give a more aged look to our filming which is really effective and has been used by other artists from our genre. For example for Taylor Swift's 22 music video she uses a rounded border throught to give a polaroid photo look which is associated with the 60's and 70's.

Also to emphasise that our artist dislikes technology and feels out of place there we made all of our urban footage and footage including some form of technology black and whote.
We did this to show how dull and lifeless our artist finds urban areas, whilst we kept our rural footage full colour to show the bright countryside locations and how happy and at home our artist is here.

 Twitter

We created a twitter page for our artist to allow her fans to stay in touch with her and ask any question they may have, aswell as sharing any feedback they have about our music video.

Album Cover

I used the Panasonic HD camera to take shots of my artist for my album cover. I did this as I believe this camera take great quality shots, also as this camera was used for filming our music video I wanted to combine the two together by using similar shots for both.

Also I decicded to use typewriter font to go with the 60's and 70's theme as well as signing the artist name in a Italic font giving a personal feel to the album.

Evaluation

As well as creating a twitter page for fans to give feedback and there opinions on the music video I have also created a questionnaire that I handed around to members of the public and asked them to fill it out to get an idea of the reception of my music video.

Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Media Evaluation - Question 2

How effective is the combination of your music video with your digipak and magazine advertisement?

To find inspiration and help to plan my digipak and magazine advert I researched other artists from the indie/pop genre, to help inspire me with ideas.
I decided to style my artist and include props similar to artists from this genre and follow the conventions.

Digipak

This digipak of Lucy Rose inspired me to include rural locations in my digipak as well as close ups of my artist.
My Digipak
On the front cover of my digipak I decided to use a typewriter font for the name of our artist, as it resembles the era our song "punk rocker".
I also included this font for my song list on the back.
Also I decided to sign the artists name in a italic font to make it look like a signature and more personal to fans.
I included rural landscapes and a long shot of the artist playing a acoustic guitar which again shows the indie/pop genre.
Magazine advert
This magazine advert of Kate Nash really inspired me for my advert.
I like how the simple blue background mhasises the artist in her bright red dress showing her importance, aswell as bringing outthe writing, making it stand out.
My Magazine Advert

I chose to include my artists name in italics in my magazine advert as well as my digipak to keep consistence and also again give that personal touch to her fans.
I chose to use a pink font colour to represent her 'girlyness' as well as showing familiarity with her fand who are mainly teenage girls.
I decided to use a black background with white typewriter font ( same as my digipak), keeping it simple yet effective and making the writing stand out and catch the readers eye.
Also I uses a screen shot from my music video for this advert as well as my digipak to combine everything together and help get the message/narrative from my music video across.

Evaluation Question 1

This shows the showcase speech Sanan gave for our groups music video. This is also where we recieved and filmed audience feedback to see how successful our music video has been.

Audience Feedback

This texts also shows another form of audience feedback. This shows how one of the audience members, really enjoyed the contrast of our buisness woman and hippy and they really related to the storyline.

Audience Feedback Questionairre

This is the questionairre we handed out to our audience after they watched our music video to see what they thought of it, and to see if there is anything they think we can do differently.

Magazine advert

For my magazine advert I decided to have a plain black background as it looks professional and would look in place in a magazine. I chose to use a screen shot from my music video of my artist in a field to shoe our artists 'hippy side' and love of nature. Also I decided to have my artist sign her name on the advert to make it look more authentic and personal to fans. I chose to have this in a bright pink colour to stand out against the background and catch the audiences attention.

Digipak

Here is my finished digipak. I chose to use screen shots from my music video for my album cover, so all my products relate to each and reflect the music video and artist. I also chose to have the artist sign her name on both my digipak and magazine advert to make it seem more personal to fans. I decided to have my front cover a field shot to represent our anti technology narrative and our artist hippy, carefree personality.

Green Screen

Green screened old posters onto a brick wall

Green screened our artist with technology surrounding her onto a field background

This is the background we chose was our green screen as it shows rural countryside

Whilst editing we have decided that we would like to green screen certain images of our artist surrounded by technology onto a rural background as we feel this helps express our message of antitechnology. Aswell as this we are green screening old film poster onto a brick wall background to look old fashioned and give a 60s and 70s effect.

Twitter page

Me and my group have created a twitter page for our artist so that we she can promote her album and receive messages from fans. Also we have followed artists of the same genre such as Florence and The machine and Natasha Bedingfield.
Here are some photos of our artist twitter page:

Editing

As our music video is referring to the 60s and 70s my group and I decided to include iconic film posters from this time.

Filming locations

We have finished all our filming and I am especially happy with our central London shots as I feel that including London's landmarks such as telephone boxes represents the era our song is singing about. here are some of these images:

Filming

We have decided to have our music video in black and white as it makes it look more authentic and from the time our song is referring to. We have chosen to have red objects such as The london bus, telephone box and red lipstick in red to stand out from the black and white background and represent the iconic london landmarks.

Music Video

This image is a focus pull that we have included in
our music video.

We have decided to use animals to represent nature
and also to use as a cutaway shot.

We have also included this shot to represent nature
and show our hippy character.

This image is perfect for a front cover of a
magazine advert.

Editing

This picture shows me editing a mid shot for our music video. Here I am matching up the singing to the song lyrics, and trying to create a choppy effect by using lots of difference shots.

Digipak

I have decided to use this image from our music video as the front screen for my digipak. I have chose this as the background is natural representing our characters hippy side, as well as her clothing and playing the acoustic guitar.

I also like this photo and may use it in my digipak:

This Vlog shows us discusiing and deciding on a name for our band. We have decided on Daisy and the chains and it is a play on words from daisy chains which everyone has heard of.
As well as this daisies reflect the nature/hippy side of our singer as they are a flower and chains reflect metal, technologies etc so the name helps express the message our music video is sending which is anti technology.

America

I've just got back from my Holiday in America and have been doing some productive media research whilst away.
Whilst in America I visited Universal studios where I went on many Movie tours.
As well as this I went to the cinema to see Les Miserables which I loved. It was so moving and powerful and I think the fact the actors sung live in takes made the movie so much more powerful and showed more emotion. This is what we have done in our music video to make it seem as if our singer is singing live and to express more emotion to our audience.
